Focus on Grammar 3 Workbook (Third Edition), Fuchs
Course Description: A continuation of ESOL 0344, this course develops low
intermediate proficiency in English grammar and usage.
Course Prerequisites: ESOL 0344 or placement testing
Course Objectives: Students gain confidence in their ability to speak and write
English accurately and fluently at this level of proficiency.
Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Use verb tenses to express appropriate time relationships.
2. Use modal verbs to express logical relationships.
3. Use adjective, adverb, and noun forms to express logical relationships.
Absence and Tardy Policies: According to HCCS policy, the teacher may drop
any student who has missed 12.5% of class. If you arrive more than five minutes
late, you will be counted tardy. (3 tardies=1 absence) If you are more than fifteen
minutes late, you will be counted absent.
Withdrawal Policy: In Texas public colleges and universities, students who
enroll in the same course three or more times must pay higher tuition. Also, a
law passed in 2007 limits new students to six withdrawals during their college
careers. So do not drop (withdraw from) any class before you talk to your teacher
or counselor. If you need to drop, fill out the withdrawal form before April 15 in
order to receive a W.
Make-up Policy: If you have to be absent, you must talk to me about the work
you missed. It is very important to be present when we have a test. You can
only make up a test if you had an emergency.
Scholastic Honesty: I expect all of you to be responsible students. That means
if you have problems doing the work; ask me for help, not another student.
Cellular Phones: Turn off your cell phone when you enter the classroom.
Talking and text messaging on the cell phone is not allowed during class time.
Students with Disabilities: Any student with a documented disability (e.g.
physical, learning, psychiatric, developmental, vision, hearing, etc.) who needs to
arrange reasonable accommodation must contact the Disability Support (DSS)
Counselor at the beginning of each semester. Ms. Kim Ingram is the Northeast
College DSS counselor. Teachers can only provide the accommodation
requested by the DSS Office. The DSS office is in Room 108. Her telephone
number is 713/718-8420.
