Campaign Consultants – The Lew Edwards Group A luncheon for key people in the bond process will be held on the 16th. Notify Vic if you want to attend. Q-Builder: After receiving an introductory overview of the Q-Builder program, Vic felt that it might be utilized in the program review process recommended by the accreditation team. With some research into how to utilize it for specific purposes, it could also simplify and/or replace status and annual reports. Comments: Set-up is cumbersome. Upkeep is also cumbersome. It was suggested that users update only when significant progress has been made and only note highlights. If properly done, these reports can be printed off to serve as monthly status reports. Q-builder seems to be designed more for long-term goals. Use any divisions that have been successful in using Q-Builder as models for one’s own division. It was noted that two divisions were trained during the pilot program. Use projects that are already complete (like the Hawthorne and Inglewood sites) to enter data retroactively to practice using the system. Since Facilities already has its projects entered on Microsoft, going to Q-builder will mean a lot of double entry work for them (unless Q-builder has features similar to Microsoft). Q-builder can be viewed by everyone, so security is an issue. Vic will meet with Steve regarding further training Committee Reports/Division Issues: Janice Ely: Cashiering, Records, Admissions, and ITS met yesterday to discuss improving customer service during registration. College Council Report: April 30 is California Community College Day in Sacramento. A group from ECC will attend to lobby re: budget cuts. Students came to discuss the President’s ban on amplified sound and presented a plan which will lift the ban as long as the decibel level is carefully monitored. There will be a meeting today to review Policy 801 and linking planning to budget. Bob Gann: Projects in the works: Reroofing of the MCS building and the Community Advancement bungalow MCS Vending Area Deli - Food service construction in the MCS vending area was to have been finished in March (per the contract); however, it hasn’t even started. It was noted that the Deli food vendors are using the refrigerators in the Convenience Store until the other two locations are built. SSC Restrooms - May 17 is the scheduled completion date for the SSC restrooms. Other projects include MCS chiller work (fall), water main replacement and CDC cabling (summer), fire sprinkler modification, window coverings in Humanities, bringing recycled water in to water the track, the fields, etc., parking structure repairs, soundproofing in construction technology, renovation of Art 218 and MCS 105, Bookstore offices, and parking lot striping (walkway replacement is on hold). Pam Fees: She will be at the CASBO conference this week. Vic should have the budget by Friday. Some employees are still working, even after the 170-day notices were sent out. Janet Clarke: They are working on pre qualification bids for the science complex. Bids are out for preliminary site work to prepare the parking lot for the modular buildings and for generic plumbing and HVAC services. David Miller: The items the President noted during his tour of the Hawthorne site cannot be addressed until the paperwork for the maintenance contract is processed. Arvid Spor will handle getting fire extinguishers for the Inglewood site. Rocky Bonura: The issue of upgrading the other cafeteria rooms to the standard of the Alondra Room was revisited. The AV division also needs to upgrade its equipment. Andy Nasatir: The second convenience store (Common Grounds) is scheduled to open soon (either the 22nd or 29th). The hiring freeze will significantly affect them, especially during fall rush. Allene Quarles: Classification reviews from 2001 will be held on April 16, 17, and 18. Positions listed in the contract will be reviewed next year. Marcy is still in court. Mike D’Amico: Cafeteria catering prices went up significantly. Café prices went up too; students perceive it at the same time the trucks went. Maurice Elmore: More bike racks are needed and will be placed in strategic locations on campus to prevent the current problem of bikes being chained to anything and everything. Once the new racks are installed, students will be ticketed if they park their bikes elsewhere. Rocky and Mike want to be kept in the loop on this situation. Alex Kelley: Timekeeper issues need to be dealt with at the VP level. Rules and policies need to be set up and enforced (a list was provided to Vic). If HR is to add this to its workload, they will need more help. Customer Service Training: The recent day-long customer service training for managers was critiqued. Comments: Content was lacking, especially in the afternoon. Nothing new was learned. Standards weren’t developed. All day was too long. Break it down to 4-hour sessions. This is to be an agenda item for next week’s meeting. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m. staf49
