Board Policies: Jo Ann wants to start pushing a few through at a time, starting with safety issues. Babs and Mike will get together to choose the ones to push through. Program Review 2010-2011: Plans were due at the end of January. Mike’s is done. Julie is pretty much done; she is just tweaking it before having staff review it. It should be done in about a week. Rocky’s is done but needs to be revised. Janice should include the loan procedure in her plan. Jo Ann wants to devote a couple of Friday mornings to review the plans – perhaps instead of staff meetings. Lynn Solomita will only be here four days a week, so some of our staff meetings may be changed. Committee Reports/Division Issues: Mike Trevis: Last Thursday they did a sting operation in the cross walk near Facilities. Fourteen tickets were issued in two hours. He is working with Ann Garten to put together a Campus Watch link. It is designed to be anonymous in case people don’t want to say who they are. At the last Board meeting someone reported a suspicious person whose goal was to steal bikes, and they got him. He and Julie will walk with ADT to look at camera usage in the Bookstore. They will discuss replacing the blue poles. Rocky Bonura: They are looking at a study abroad program to Japan. Leonardo backed out on the Australia trip and ECC had to pay some students back. It was suggested that any time you deal with travel agents, you should pay with a credit card. Don’t write checks. Would it be worthwhile to put out a list of travel agents who defaulted? There is no insurance on this kind of thing. Cabinet will discuss the study abroad program. They have been getting a lot of bid protests with all bids now. This is probably due to the economy. The 19th is the bid opening on the MBA. Julie Bourlier: They finished winter 40% down in textbook sales. This is probably due to low enrollment. It could also have to do with the move and/or the construction on campus. Yesterday was the first day they sold books for spring, and it was a good day. They could be down a million for the year. They are looking for other revenue streams. They will be back in the original Bookstore location in April. Janice Ely: Regarding the COTOP letters, some students have already had money taken out of their tax returns. As of January 11, the State will collect the money. The Chancellor’s office keeps some and we get the rest. We may have to reimburse people who already paid ECC but got letter from the IRS that it will be taking the money out. This is due to a lag in keeping up with who has paid. They are doing a small test run ($14,000) of the Sallie Mae system before they do the millions. Students on this plan will get debit cards. Next Monday is the fee payment deadline for spring semester. Students tend to wait until the last minute to pay. They are submitting a list to Datatel of issues that need to be resolved. Babs Atane: Jo Ann has been following the Charles Drew issue. He feels the overhead charge is extremely high. The CDC is still pending. There are unresolved issues. He is waiting for Ron to do his review. Satish Warrier: There was a minor problem with the phones in the Student Services building due to a switch. They had a cadet posted in the building since the phones weren’t working. The athletics eligibility report that we have been producing for the past 15 years was just a list of students with units they are enrolled in the term. Keith Curry (Compton Center) questioned this practice and advised us that the units should be “actively enrolled” meaning for the units to count the section must be in session at the time of the game. Ex: A 4-unit class for the 2nd 8 weeks should not be counted until the class starts. I’ve verified this change with Bones and Carolyn at ECC and modified the report accordingly. Tom Brown: They are working on prequals, Master Plan, etc. Bob and Bruce are at a meeting on the Master Plan. The money must be spent by the end of May. Otherwise we lose it. The Library wants an intercom system. The CDC wants some security. He is working on fixed assets. If an employee buys equipment and gets reimbursed, a PO needs to be created to he can tag the item in order to track it. Rocky suggested discouraging employees from buying equipment. Per Jo Ann – we need to find a way to stop this. He needs to talk to Jo Ann about removing a tree which is seriously leaning. The arborist wants to keep the path closed until the tree issue is resolved. They want to do remove the tree before the semester starts. They will be putting in more trees when the construction is finished. . They are working on getting ready for spring semester. Meeting adjourned at 9:21 a.m. staf2210
