Library 202.
Civil Rights Compliance Review
Arvid Spor said that the Chancellor’s Office would send a team of individuals during
March or April 2002 to check on the status of the Civil Rights Review. Arvid Spor is
working with Lucinda Aborn and Bobbi Villalobos to address the civil rights compliance
issues.
VTEA Survey
Arvid Spor announced that this fall the campus wide VTEA survey would be conducted
again. He emphasized that the information we collect is very important because we
receive state funding based on the number of eligible students that we identify. We use
these funds to enhance our programs in a variety of ways. Since the count of surveys was
almost 20% higher than the count from the previous year, we received funding that
equated to $125,000 increase in funding for 2001 – 2002. Arvid Spor asked participating
deans to remind faculty that students must write their social security numbers legibly and
they should firmly bubble all responses on the survey form. He added that upon
completion all surveys should be sent back to the Workforce Education Office.
Revising the VTEA Application Process
Arvid Spor mentioned that the VTEA application process would be changed. In the past,
requesting divisions had to submit the Partnership for Excellence and the Unit Action
Plan forms. Arvid Spor said that in the future, only the eight required uses, 15 permissive
uses and the budget form would be needed when applying for VTEA funds. He also said
that the Workforce Education Office would offer workshops to educate faculty and
administrators on the VTEA application process. The proposed time for such workshop
would be January or February next year.
VTEA Title 1B State Leadership Funds
Ron Way called the participants’ attention on a grant application that he recently
received. The VTEA Title 1B State Leadership Funds is intended to promote and support
innovative and effective community college programs and services to assist individuals
who are members of Special Populations. The application deadline is: September 21,
2001. Ron Way promised to send the information to Arvid Spor so he can distribute the
grant application package to all VTEA Council members via e-mail.
CCCAOE Fall Conference
Arvid Spor shared some information about the California Community College
Association for Occupational Education conferences. He noted that two conferences held
a year; one in the spring and the other one in the fall. He gave a brief outline of the
CCCAOE conference activities by mentioning that upcoming initiatives, and the
collaboration with the Department of Public and Social Services, Workforce Investment
Boards and School-To-Career are also discussed during the conference. The next
CCCAOE conference will be held October 10-12, 2001 at the Doubletree-Mission Hills
Hotel in San Diego. Arvid Spor encouraged participants to bring more faculty to the
conference from the vocational areas. Arvid Spor would make funding arrangements for
the attendees. He also announced the spring conference dates. March 6-8, 2001 is when
the Spring 2002 conference will be held at Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite.
VTEA Brochure Status
Arvid Spor reported that the layout is set for the vocational education brochures. They
have completed all external brochure pictures and the colors were chosen as well.
According to Arvid Spor, the pictures for the cover page were taken from a CD-ROM
from a marketing firm. Arvid Spor said that brochures would be distributed to the
divisions for editing. He added that Ann Garten is working on creating additional
brochures covering academic areas. Don Visintainer expressed his department’s
anticipation for the brochures. He said he wanted to see and distribute these promotional
materials much sooner due to the immediate need for recruitment in the Radiologic
Technology field.
