NZQA registered unit standard 263 version 5 Page 1 of 3 Title Run and monitor the production process for vacuum thermoforming Level 2 Credits 8 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of the vacuumforming process; set up and monitor vacuumforming machine settings; perform a material changeover on the vacuumforming machine; and identify and correct routine product faults. Classification Plastics Processing Technology > Thermoforming Available grade Achieved Entry information Recommended skills and knowledge Unit 262, Operate a thermoforming process, and Unit 23130, Classify and name plastics materials. Explanatory notes Definitions Enterprise means an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place, and/or where the trainee is employed. Enterprise procedure is defined as actions which comply with the policies, systems, and directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedure must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992, and subsequent amendments. Material refers to roll stock, cut sheet or film. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the vacuumforming process. Evidence requirements 1.1 The construction and operation of a vacuumforming machine control unit, sheet transport system, sheet clamping system, heating unit, forming unit, trimming unit, and stacking unit are described. 1.2 The vacuumforming machine operation cycle is described. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 1.3 Vacuumforming techniques are described. Range 1.4 263 version 5 Page 2 of 3 vacuumforming techniques may include – female mould forming, male mould forming, drape forming, pre-blow forming, plug assist forming, vacuum snap pack; evidence is required for three techniques. The advantages of the pressure and vacuum forming processes are compared in terms of output, product detail, sheet materials, sheet gauge, mould cost, part size, machine cost. Outcome 2 Set up and monitor vacuumforming machine settings in accordance with enterprise procedure. Range evidence is required for one machine set-up. Evidence requirements 2.1 Machine set-up information is interpreted, and the vacuumforming machine is set up. 2.2 Vacuumforming machine settings are monitored to maintain product specification, and are reported. Outcome 3 Perform a material changeover on the vacuumforming machine in accordance with enterprise procedure. Evidence requirements 3.1 Material is selected to comply with job specification. 3.2 Machine is cleaned of all previous materials, and is reloaded with the selected material. 3.3 Machine is run with the new material and monitored to meet job specifications. Outcome 4 Identify and correct routine product faults. Range routine product faults include – poor material distribution, incomplete forming, trim quality, trim accuracy, dimensions, contamination. Evidence requirements 4.1 Routine product faults are identified and corrected in accordance with enterprise procedure. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 4.2 263 version 5 Page 3 of 3 Vacuumforming process faults are reported according to enterprise procedure.
