Explanatory notes
Definitions
Enterprise means an organisation where training and/or assessment is taking place,
and/or where the trainee is employed.
Enterprise procedure is defined as actions which comply with the policies, systems, and
directives in a particular enterprise. Enterprise procedure must comply with the
requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992, and subsequent
amendments.
Material refers to roll stock, cut sheet or film.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the pressureforming process.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The construction and operation of a pressureforming machine control unit,
sheet transport system, sheet clamping system, heating unit, forming unit,
trimming unit, and stacking unit are described.

pressureforming techniques may include – female mould forming,
male mould forming, pre-blow forming, heated blow plate forming,
plug assist forming, cut in place;
evidence is required for three techniques.
The advantages of the pressure and vacuum forming processes are compared
in terms of output, product detail, sheet materials, sheet gauge, mould cost.
Outcome 2
Set up and monitor pressureforming machine settings in accordance with enterprise
procedure.
Range
evidence is required for one machine set-up.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Machine set-up information is interpreted, and the pressureforming machine is
set up.
2.2
Pressureforming machine settings are monitored to maintain product
specification, and are reported.
Outcome 3
Perform a material changeover on the pressureforming machine in accordance with
enterprise procedure.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Material is selected to comply with job specification.
3.2
Machine is cleaned of all previous materials, and is reloaded with the selected
material.
3.3
Machine is run with the new material and monitored to meet job specifications.
Outcome 4
Identify and correct routine product faults in accordance with enterprise procedure.
Range
routine product faults include – poor material distribution, incomplete forming,
trim quality, trim accuracy, dimensions, poor definition, contamination.

Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
and assessors, and special resource requirements.
