Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: maintain a water-blaster in
a trawler fish processing factory; clean and calibrate a trawler fish processing
factory weighing system; and maintain and adjust a trawler fish processing
factory strapping machine.
This is an introductory unit standard for people working, or intending to work,
in a seafood processing plant aboard a fishing vessel.

Assessment against this unit standard must take place in a trawler fish processing
factory, at sea, under a Safe Ship Management Plan which complies with Maritime
Rules Part 21.

associated regulations.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Maintain a water-blaster in a trawler fish processing factory.
Range
hoses, nozzles, guns, lances, couplings and pumps.
Performance criteria
1.1
All procedures are carried out in accordance with the Safe Ship Management
Plan.
1.2
Maintained water-blaster system operates in accordance with factory
specifications.
Element 2
Clean and calibrate a trawler fish processing factory weighing system.
Performance criteria
2.1
Cleaning is in accordance with the factory operating procedures.
2.2
Calibration is in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Element 3
Maintain and adjust a trawler fish processing factory strapping machine.
Performance criteria
3.1
Strapping roll is replaced and strapping rethreaded in accordance with
manufacturer’s instructions.
3.2
Faults in a trawler fish processing factory strapping machine are identified and
rectified.

3.3

Strapping machine is cleaned in accordance with factory operating procedures.
