Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are, for a factory trawler heading
machine, able to: adjust the conveyor system, tappet belt, drive chain, and
gill plate; repair and maintain; and complete documentation.
This unit standard is designed for people who are, or are intending to be,
responsible for the operation of a seafood processing plant aboard a fishing
vessel.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Adjust the conveyor system of a factory trawler heading machine.
Performance criteria
1.1
Adjustments are carried out in accordance with the factory safety procedures.
1.2
Adjusted belt tensions are consistent with the normal operation of the machine,
and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Element 2
Adjust the tappet belt of a factory trawler heading machine.
Performance criteria
2.1
Adjustments are carried out in accordance with the factory safety procedures.
2.2
Adjusted belt tensions are consistent with the normal operation of the machine,
and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Element 3
Adjust the drive chain of a factory trawler heading machine.
Performance criteria
3.1
Adjustments are carried out in accordance with the factory safety procedures.
3.2
Adjusted chain tensions are consistent with the normal operation of the
machine, and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
Element 4
Adjust the gill plate of a factory trawler heading machine.
Performance criteria
4.1
Adjustments are carried out in accordance with the factory safety procedures.
4.2
Adjusted gill plate position is consistent with the normal operation of the
machine, and in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
4.3
Adjusted gill plate position is consistent with the factory manager’s
requirements.

Performance criteria
5.1
Repairs and maintenance are carried out in accordance with the factory safety
procedures.
5.2
Repair by replacement is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.
Element 6
Complete documentation for a factory trawler heading machine.
Range
may include but is not limited to – end of trip reports, machine log books, work
lists, stores list, spare parts orders.
Performance criteria
6.1
Completed documentation is in accordance with company procedures.
6.2
Completed trip documentation is consistent with the trip, and the current status
of the machine and its on board support system.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
