Classification Printing > Printing - Reel-Fed Available grade Achieved Entry information Prerequisite: Unit 340, Demonstrate knowledge of safe working practices in the printing and graphic pre-press industries, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Critical health and safety prerequisites Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Select solvents for use in wash up procedures. Evidence requirements 1.1 Solvent flash point levels, aggressiveness and toxicity are identified and explained for different solvent groups used in the workplace. Range handling, storage, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Outcome 2 Wash up a reel-fed printing press (letterpress, flexographic or gravure) in accordance with workplace practices. Evidence requirements 2.1 Inking system is washed up using the selected solvents. 2.2 Ink is reclaimed from ducts or pumps and returned to store for re-use, or disposed of, in accordance with workplace practices, local body and product requirements. 2.3 Ancillary press equipment used during the production run is cleaned and stored. Range any of – numbering machines; cutting, creasing and perforating devices; gluing units; punching unit; foiling; embossing; sheeting; cutting dies; waxing; laminating; slitting. 2.4 Image carriers are cleaned and checked for wear and damage and any faults or defects are rectified or reported in accordance with workplace practices. 2.5 Image carriers are disposed of, or prepared for storage and stored in accordance with workplace practices. 2.6 Waste control procedures are followed in accordance with workplace practices, local body and product requirements.
