This unit standard is for people working as cleaners in the
motel or backpackers’ accommodation sector.
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare the
equipment and work area for cleaning, and clean the external
area of a motel.

1
Definitions
Establishment requirements – refer to any policy, procedure, or agreed requirement,
either written or oral, that is made known to the candidate prior to assessment in this
unit standard.
Motel exterior may include but is not limited to – exterior doors, walls, decking,
private guest areas attached to motel or backpackers’ accommodation units, and
outdoor furniture provided for guest use. Windows are not included in this definition.

Legislation to be complied with includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in
Employment Act 1992, Innkeepers Act 1962, Privacy Act 1993.

For the purpose of this unit standard, evidence will be required that guests are
greeted and treated in all interactions in a polite, friendly, and helpful manner.

This unit standard must be assessed against in a realistic workplace environment.
The candidate must be under realistic time pressures, use relevant commercial
equipment, and have realistic customer/staff ratios. Examples for each sector can be
found in AMAP 0112.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Prepare the equipment and work area for cleaning.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Guest accommodation is confirmed as vacant before cleaning is commenced in
accordance with establishment requirements.

1.2
Cleaning equipment and materials are prepared and ready for use in
accordance with establishment requirements.
1.3
Motel guests are warned of the potential hazards by the placing of warning
signs in accordance with establishment requirements.
Outcome 2
Clean the external area of a motel.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Correct cleaning materials are used for surface to be cleaned in accordance
with establishment requirements.
2.2
Surfaces, fixtures, and fittings are cleaned within allocated timeframe in
accordance with establishment requirements.
2.3
Maintenance requirements for motel exteriors are identified and reported in
accordance with establishment requirements.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by
the last date for assessment set out below.
