Statutory requirements may include but is not limited to
the relevant sections of the New Zealand Building Code
and relevant standards such as the New Zealand
Standard (NZS) 3000:1997, Electrical Installations Buildings, Structures and Premises, and European
Standard EN115:May 1983, Safety Rules for the
Construction and Installation of Escalators and
Passenger Conveyors.
Escalators may be a single or multiple unit.
Moving walks may be single or multiple units and have
treads consisting of belt and pallet type.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of
practice and documented worksite safety procedures
(where these exceed code) for personal, product and
worksite safety, and must meet the obligations required
under current legislation. Legislation includes but is not
limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act
(1992), and its subsequent amendments.

1.1
Work requirements are identified from contracts and layouts, and confirmed if
necessary by site inspection, according to worksite procedure.

1.2
Resources required for the job including equipment, materials, tools, and
personnel are identified, prepared, and transported to the worksite according to
worksite procedure.
1.3
Lifting and rigging equipment is selected for lifting and transporting the
escalator and moving walk according to worksite procedure.
1.4
Floor and surfaces adjacent to the work area are adequately protected from
soiling and damage by the work process.
1.5
Work area is prepared to provide safe access to, and egress from, the worksite
and to ensure public safety is achieved and maintained by designated isolation
procedures in accordance with local authority bylaws.

2.1
Escalator and moving walk is lifted into position according to worksite
procedure.
2.2
Escalator and moving walk is placed on supports, jacked to final level, aligned,
and permanently fixed in accordance with the specification and worksite
procedure.
2.3
Equipment and guards are checked for compliance with statutory requirements.

2.4
Component parts of the escalator and moving walk are installed in accordance
with manufacturers’ specifications and worksite procedure.
Range:
component parts may include but are not limited to - glass, hand
rails, tracks, side decks, chains on multi-section installation.

Carry out completion work on escalators and moving walks.

3.1
Equipment is prepared for commissioning according to worksite procedure.
3.2
Floor and adjacent surface protection is removed and worksite cleared and
cleaned.
3.3
Equipment, tools, ropes and protection materials are transported from site or
disposed according to worksite procedure.
3.4
Records are completed according to worksite procedure.
