Definitions
Worksite procedure refers to the documented
procedures for the machine and/or worksite.
Statutory requirements may include but is not limited to
the relevant sections of the New Zealand Building Code
and relevant standards such as the New Zealand
Standard (NZS) 3000:1997, Electrical Installations Buildings, Structures and Premises, and European
Standard EN115:May 1983, Safety Rules for the
Construction and Installation of Escalators and
Passenger Conveyors.
Territorial authority and inspecting authority refers to
the relevant Local Body Authority and the by-laws of
that authority for the particular local body area.
Escalators may be a single or multiple unit.
Moving walks may be single or multiple units and have
treadways consisting of belt and pallet type.

All work practices must meet recognised codes of
practice and documented worksite safety procedures
(where these exceed code) for personal, product and
worksite safety, and must meet the obligations required
under current legislation. Legislation includes but is not
limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act
(1992), and its subsequent amendments.

A working knowledge of a variety of test instruments
will be required to gain credit in this unit standard, and
these may include but are not limited to - tachometer,
accelerometer,
load
cell
devices,
multimeter,
oscilloscope, megger, frequency counter, signal
generator.

1.1
Commissioning requirements are identified from drawings, work specifications,
and manufacturers’ technical information and clarified and confirmed according
to worksite procedure.
1.2
Resources required for commissioning including drawings and plans, diagnostic
and other equipment and tools, and personnel are identified and transported to
the worksite.
1.3
Sequence of work is prepared and coordination issues resolved with others
involved or affected by the work according to worksite procedure.
1.4
Statutory and territorial requirements are identified and applied according to
worksite procedure.

Escalator and moving walk is made ready for tests according to worksite
procedure.

2.1
Visual inspection is carried out to ensure the electrical and mechanical
equipment is not damaged, defective or showing signs of deterioration.
2.2
Components are set to specifications, and clearances and various tensions
checked for compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
Range:
components may include but are not limited to - handrails, steps,
pallets, step-chains, driving equipment.
2.3
All equipment is cleaned and lubricated according to worksite procedure.
2.4
Equipment is tested to confirm compliance with statutory and territorial
requirements and to ensure the equipment functions to customers’
requirements and manufacturers’ specifications.
