NZQA Expiring unit standard 7200 version 7 Page 1 of 3 Title Set up and maintain a carpet shearing machine Level 5 Credits 10 Purpose This unit standard is for people working in the carpet manufacturing industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify shearing faults and causes; set the cut of a shearing machine; monitor and maintain the lubrication system; and recondition cylinder and blade. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Identify shearing faults and causes. Evidence requirements 1.1 Shearing faults are identified, and are described in terms of their appearance and cause. Evidence requirements 2.1 Machine is set in accordance with workplace safety procedures. 2.2 Blade adjustment avoids damage to the machine. 2.3 Oscillation is set according to workplace practice. 2.4 Cut produces product to specification. Range 2.5 cut clean and even across width, required pile height. Need for re-honing is identified, and actioned according to workplace practice. Outcome 3 Monitor and maintain the lubrication system. Evidence requirements 3.1 Lubrication system components are described in terms of their function and use. Range 3.2 pump, lubrication jets, oil pad, timer. Lubrication system is set according to workplace practice. Range times, lubricant type. Outcome 4 Recondition cylinder and blade. Evidence requirements 4.1 Ledger condition is assessed and replaced or re-honed according to workplace practice. 4.2 Grinding paste is selected according to manufacturer’s recommendation. 4.3 Grind in ledger blade is shaped according to manufacturer’s recommendation.
