Set up and maintain a carpet shearing machine

Purpose
This unit standard is for people working in the carpet
manufacturing industry. People credited with this unit standard
are able to: identify shearing faults and causes; set the cut of a
shearing machine; monitor and maintain the lubrication system;
and recondition cylinder and blade.

1
Plant safety practices and procedures comply with Health and Safety in Employment
(HSE) Act 1992, and workplace procedures.

Workplace productivity and quality requirements are met.

It is recommended that persons seeking credit for this unit standard have already
completed Unit 7199, Shear carpet, or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge or
skills.

It is expected that people credited with this unit standard will also have engineering
maintenance skills.

Set the cut of a shearing machine.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Machine is set in accordance with workplace safety procedures.
2.2
Blade adjustment avoids damage to the machine.
2.3
Oscillation is set according to workplace practice.
2.4
Cut produces product to specification.

an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can

Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
