NZQA Expiring unit standard 5426 version 8 Page 1 of 3 Title Dry carpet on a carpet dryer Level 2 Credits Purpose 6 This unit standard is for people working in the carpet dyeing industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of carpet drying; prepare a steamer and dryer and process dyed carpet; and carry out cleaning and minor maintenance. They refer to manuals, manufacturer's specification, codes of practice, or policy statements. Product specifications refer to the document which accompanies each manufacturing order. This specifies all of the parameters for production of the yarn batch. This may include the fibre specification, the shade, dye bath parameters, machinery to be used and finishing procedures. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of carpet drying. Evidence requirements 1.1 Carpet steamer and dryer sections are identified and described in terms of their function and operation. Range machine controls, steam injection, energy supply system, width control. Evidence requirements 2.1 Machine settings and operating conditions produce steamed and dried carpet to product specifications. Range 2.2 steamer section – steamer pre-heated; dryer section – temperature, damper setting, fan speeds. Product faults are identified and rectified according to workplace procedures. Range moisture content, bowing, skewing, width. 2.3 Carpet which has stood in the machine during a machine stoppage is handled according to workplace procedures. 2.4 Records are maintained according to workplace procedures. Outcome 3 Carry out cleaning and minor maintenance. Evidence requirements 3.1 Fibre is removed from steamer and dryer to prevent contamination of following batches. 3.2 Air intakes, fans, and filters are maintained and cleaned according to workplace procedures. 3.3 Steamer and dryer area is cleaned according to workplace procedures. 3.4 Minor maintenance is carried out according to workplace procedures. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
