People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of spool setting, and prepare spools and yarn for pattern lines. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of spool setting. Evidence requirements 1.1 Spool setting equipment is explained in terms of its function and use. Range 1.2 setting machine, spool, setting table, length counter, reed, clamp, spool drive. Setting pattern is described in terms of its structure. Range rows, tuft placement, tuft colour. Evidence requirements 2.1 Spool set-up is carried out in accordance with workplace safety procedures. 2.2 Yarn is loaded on setting table in sequence required by pattern. 2.3 Reed is threaded according to row on pattern. 2.4 Spool is loaded according to work instruction and pattern. Range 2.5 end breaks mended, supply cheeses maintained, loaded to required length, clamp applied, ends cut cleanly. Completed spool is identified and stacked according to workplace requirement.
