knowledge of the management practices before and after
mating that lead to optimum production for deer, the influence

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of the management practices before and after mating that lead to
optimum production for deer.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Management practices are described in relation to the factors which determine
optimum conception rates.
Range
natural mating and/or artificial insemination, fertile semen, deer
health, feeding, stag fertility and libido, impact of pre and post rut
weaning, hind body condition score, synchronised oestrus.
1.2
Management practices are described in relation to post-mating practices that
support a healthy pregnancy and successful parturition.
1.3
The role of ultrasound scanning is described in terms of its use in pregnancy
diagnosis.

Demonstrate knowledge of the influence of mating management on deer parturition.
