Evidence requirements 1.1 Management practices are described in relation to the factors which determine optimum conception rates. Range natural mating and/or artificial insemination, fertile semen, deer health, feeding, stag fertility and libido, impact of pre and post rut weaning, hind body condition score, synchronised oestrus. 1.2 Management practices are described in relation to post-mating practices that support a healthy pregnancy and successful parturition. 1.3 The role of ultrasound scanning is described in terms of its use in pregnancy diagnosis. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of the influence of mating management on deer parturition. Range date and spread, late births, production losses through infertility. Evidence requirements This unit standard is expiring Mating management practices are described in relation to their influence on 2.1 Parturition targets specifying desirable birth patterns for deer are identified. 2.2 Management practices which influence parturition are described in terms of parturition targets. 2.3 livestock production losses through infertility. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of the management of breeding males throughout the year. Range nutrition, health, handling, timing, seasonality. Evidence requirements 3.1 Management practices are described in relation to preparing breeding males for mating. 3.2 Management practices are described in relation to mating which maximises breeding male performance.
