Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of deer genetics.
Performance criteria
1.1
Genes and chromosomes are described in terms of the way in which they
contribute to sex determination, heredity, and traits in deer.
1.2
Heredity and environment are described in terms of the way in which they
contribute to genetic improvement in deer.
Element 2
Demonstrate knowledge of deer mating.
Performance criteria
2.1
Deer mating is described in terms of the typical behaviours exhibited by the stag
and hinds.
2.2
The deer breeding programme is described in terms of the timing of events.
Range
2.3
includes but is not limited to – hinds cycling, introduction of stag.
Deer mating is described in terms of the selection criteria for stags.
