Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: supply
power to the equipment and all components; make chops in the
board; and follow safety requirements for the equipment being
used.

Unit 340, Demonstrate knowledge of safe working practices in
the printing and graphic pre-press industries, or demonstrate
equivalent knowledge and skills.
Explanatory notes
1
All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice,
and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for
personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the
obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment
Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource
Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments.

Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or
workplace.

1.1
Requirements for the sequence of switch-on routines and checks are explained
in terms of workplace practices.

Equipment is switched on in the correct sequence, and all checks are made in
accordance with workplace practices and equipment operating requirements.
1.3
Chop lengths are set in accordance with the requirements of the job
specifications.

Make chops in the board.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Chop lengths are confirmed against the job specifications.
Range
for direct drive knives= + 1mm;
for non direct drive knives = – 2mm to + 10mm.
2.2
Actions to be taken in the event of the failure of the chop knife or any
component to perform in accordance with operating requirements are explained
in terms of workplace practices.
2.3
Chop lengths outside specified dimensions are reported or rectified immediately
in accordance with workplace practices.
2.4
Board is chopped to meet the requirements of the job specifications.

Waste, scrap and rubbish are removed from the work area.
