Purpose
This unit standard applies to operational activities carried out on producing
wellheads.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare a petrochemical
well site for wellhead maintenance; kill the well; and remove items and
components for rig access at a petrochemical wellhead.

This unit standard is intended for, but is not limited to, workplace assessment. While
all performance criteria must be met it is noted that all range statements within this
unit standard are indicative and dependent on enterprise and site specific equipment,

Definition
Site requirements mean the site specific documented methods for performing work
activities and include health, safety, environmental, and quality management
requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare a petrochemical well site for wellhead maintenance.
Performance criteria
1.1
Authorisation procedures and instructions of the assigned company engineer
are identified.
Range
instructions, drawings, specifications, authorisations, safety,
excavation, permits, site handovers, isolation certificates.
1.2
Health and safety requirements for the removal of items are described in
accordance with site requirements.
1.3
Resources are selected prior to commencement of maintenance activity.

upon with the assigned company engineer and consequent requirements are

Isolations to complete the activity are carried out and checked to ensure
compliance with safety and site requirements.

disruption to production schedules and complying with instructions of the
assigned company engineer.
3.2
Items are removed according to site standards whilst minimising downtime and
disruption to production schedules.
3.3
Removed items and components are identified, cleaned, transferred, and stored
in a safe, secure manner according to site requirements.
3.4
Procedures for the housekeeping of the work area are identified and explained
in accordance with site requirements.
3.5
Communication is maintained with appropriate personnel during dismantling
and/or removal operations in accordance with site requirements.

The release of substances during maintenance activity is minimised in
accordance with site and legislative requirements.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
