Those credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of base covers and back rests; prepare to make the back rest and base cover; and make the back rest and base cover. Range vinyl, cloth, leather. 1.3 Designs and patterns are identified according to material, seat, and vehicle manufacturers' specifications. 1.4 Method of attachment to frame is identified according to vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Outcome 2 Prepare to make a back rest and base cover. Evidence requirements 2.1 Tools and equipment are identified, and are used according to the tool and equipment manufacturers' specifications. Range shears, square, measuring tape, sewing machine, needle, thread, skewers, markers, rule. 2.2 Customer requirements and cover specification are identified, and are verified according to company policy. 2.3 Materials that enable the cover to be made to specification are identified. Range padding, cover, plain, patterned, flat, pile, stretch, vinyl, quilted, UV treated. 2.4 Defects in fabric are identified and omitted according to company policy. 2.5 Template that enables the rest and cover to be made is created according to specification. Outcome 3 Make the back rest and base cover. Evidence requirements 3.1 Material is laid out, measured, marked out, and cut, and all measurements are according to specification and company policy. Range matching pattern, pile consistency and direction, allowance for seams, hems, stretch, shrinkage; allowance of +/- 2mm. Range sewing machine, hand sewing; piping, fluting/pleating, seaming, quilting, top sewing, saddle seams, top stitch; stitching even, joints flat and even; allowance of +/- 2mm. 3.3 Buttons are fitted as necessary according to customer requirements and company policy. 3.4 Unused materials are disposed of or stored, according to manufacturer's specifications and company policy. 3.5 Cover and padding are fitted on frame and fit according to specification. Range piping even, neat and aligned, marks aligned, no wrinkles, matching pattern. 3.6 Tools and equipment are clean and put away in their place according to company policy. 3.7 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task.
