1
All workplace practices must comply with current legislation, codes of practice, and
documented site safety procedures for personal, product, and worksite safety.

Legislation and regulations relevant to this unit standard include but are not limited to
– Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Health and Safety in Employment
Regulations 1995.

There will be a specific range of hand tools for each trade which is obtainable from
the Joinery Industry Training Organisation. Trades that might use this unit standard
include but are not limited to – joinery, kitchen manufacturing, laminate fabrication,
component machining.

Outcome 1
Use hand tools to perform a process in joinery and related trades.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The hand tools are selected for their specified use in accordance with
workplace practice.
1.2
The hand tools are used to perform the activity or process in accordance with
workplace practice.

Maintain hand tools in joinery and related trades.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Cutting edges and points are maintained to manufacturer’s specifications.
2.2
Tools are maintained in working order, and are free of rust, and dirt, in
accordance with workplace practice.
2.3
Damaged and broken tools are repaired or replaced where applicable in
accordance with workplace practice.
