People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare for sign construction; build framework; and attach substrate to framework. Classification Graphic Arts > Signmaking Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit relates to the construction of a sign which comprises a substrate and a framework. 2 All work practices shall meet the requirements of relevant legislation, including Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and the requirements of industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures in respect to health, safety, and environmental matters. 3 Reference to company policy means any policies, procedures, and requirements of the company involved, and the ethical codes of relevant professional management. Evidence requirements 1.1 Job requirements are ascertained to comply with brief. 1.2 Materials selected comply with brief. 1.3 Layout of framework is determined to comply with brief. 1.4 Tools selected are suitable for material to be worked. Outcome 3 Attach substrate to framework. Evidence requirements 3.1 Substrate is compatible with material of framework and measurements comply with specifications. 3.2 Substrate is fixed to framework using approved fixing methods and/or adhesives compatible with material used. 3.3 Work area, tools, equipment, and materials are cleaned and stored in accordance with company policy.
