Title
Load transport containers in the meat processing industry

Purpose

People credited with this unit standard are able to: ensure
products and containers are ready for loading; load containers
with products; and ready them for dispatch.
This unit standard is for people who are employed in the
distribution area at meat processing plants and who are
required to load containers with animal products in accordance
with organisational and overseas customer requirements.

Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992, Animal Products Act 1999.

Definitions
Organisational requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are documented in memo, electronic or manual format and are available in the
workplace;
Customer specifications are product specifications set by clients relating to cuts,
weights, presentation and packaging;
Company specifications are product specifications set by the company relating to
cuts, weights, presentation and packaging.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Ensure products and containers are ready for loading.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Consignments are identified and confirmed as correctly prepared for loading
according to organisational requirements.
Range
may include but is not limited to – seals intact, stamps legible,
dates checked, documentation completed, free from damage.

Containers and work areas are checked to ensure they are free from
contamination and damage in accordance with organisational requirements.
Range
contamination and damage includes but is not limited to – rust,
water, foreign matter, odours, pests, container damage;
checks include but are not limited to – clean environment, free of
rubbish, equipment stored, clear work areas.
1.3
Refrigerated containers are monitored for the correct temperature for the
products being transported in accordance with organisational requirements.
1.4
Materials to prevent product damage in transit are provided to meet
consignment loading and organisational requirements.
1.5
Personnel are advised of duties, and equipment for loading is prepared, to meet
organisational requirements.
1.6
When used, ramps are positioned and fastened to the container to facilitate
entry and egress.

Load containers with products and ready them for dispatch according to organisational
requirements.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Consignment is loaded in accordance with organisational requirements.

being loaded.

Records and documentation required for consignment of products are actioned
in accordance with company and/or customer specifications.

Loaded containers are sealed, secure, and readied for transportation to meet
organisational requirements.

procedures, food safety procedures, quality procedures.
