Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard is intended for, but not restricted to, workplace assessment. 2 Safety of personnel and plant must be a priority throughout the assessment. If the safety requirements are not met the assessment must stop and the candidate will be assessed as not yet competent. 3 Performance and work practices in relation to the outcomes and evidence requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act 1992, and any regulations, codes of practice recognised under that statute, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments, electricity supply industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Interpret the scope of work for installing structure mounted electrical equipment in accordance with industry requirements. Evidence requirements 1.1 Pole type and size are established. Range 1.2 Structure arrangement is established. Range 1.3 crane, manual, winch. Pole setting arrangements are established. Range 1.5 angle, equipment support, intermediate, termination. Installation method is established. Range 1.4 composite, concrete, height, length, steel, strength, wood. anchoring, blocking, compaction, depth, guying. Underground services are checked and located. Range gas, power, sewer, telecommunication, water. Outcome 2 Install structure mounted electrical equipment in accordance with industry requirements. Evidence requirements 2.1 Hardware is selected to match scope of work. Range 2.2 includes but is not limited to – braces, conductor attachments, cross arms, insulators, signs, step bolts. Hardware and equipment are attached. Evidence requirements 3.1 Reported information is complete, concise, and legible. 3.2 Information is recorded in the required format and filed within the scheduled time-frame.
