People credited with this unit standard are able to: interpret the
work scope for installing pad and structure mounted electrical
equipment; install pad mounted electrical equipment; install
structure mounted electrical equipment; and report on pad and
structure mounted installation work; in accordance with industry
requirements.

Unit 10526, Operate ground and structure mounted electrical
equipment associated with electric lines or cables up to 66kV;
Unit 18038, Demonstrate knowledge of and apply health and
safety in the electricity supply environment; and Unit 18276,
Operate light lifting and rigging equipment in the electricity
supply environment; or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and
skills.
Explanatory notes

This unit standard is intended for, but not restricted to, workplace assessment. The
rage statements across the unit standard can be applied according to industry
specific equipment, procedures, and processes.

Safety of personnel and plant must be a priority throughout the assessment. If the
safety requirements are not met the assessment must stop and the candidate will be
assessed as not yet competent.

Performance and work practices in relation to the outcomes and evidence
requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act
1992 and any subsequent amendments, and any regulations, codes of practice
recognised under that statute, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the
Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments, electricity
supply industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures. These
include, Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI) (2004) Wellington: Electricity
Engineers’ Association.

The phrase in accordance with industry requirements is implicit in all outcomes and
evidence requirements in this unit standard.

Definitions
Industry requirements include all asset owner requirements; manufacturers’
specifications; and enterprise requirements which cover the documented workplace
policies, procedures, specifications, business, and quality management requirements
relevant to the workplace in which assessment is carried out.
Asset owner refers to the owner of an electricity supply network that takes its point of
supply from Transpower NZ, and delivers electricity to industrial, commercial and
residential customers.
Asset owner standards are the approved documented work site methods for carrying
out work on an electrical supply network to the standard required by the asset owner.

Assessment of practical skills against the outcomes in this standard requires three
practical observations from three different workplace activities.

Evidence requirements

Electrical equipment is installed.
Range

standards, pre commissioning tests.

Install structure mounted electrical equipment.
Range
may include but is not limited to –high voltage (HV) air brake switches, auto
recloser, capacitors, reactors, knife switches, gas switches;
evidence of two is required.

Hardware is selected to match scope of work determined by asset owner.

Hardware and equipment are installed to match scope of work determined by
asset owner.

Earthing to meet the requirements of NZECP 35.

Report on pad mounted electrical equipment installation work.

may include but is not limited to – electric line history, test reports, service
report, work report, as built, pre- and post-commissioning test report;
evidence of one is required.

Reported information is complete, concise, and legible to conform to asset
owner’s requirements.
4.2
Information is recorded in the required format and filed within the scheduled
time-frame.
