This entry level unit standard is for people whose job is to clean
rendering department machinery, equipment and facilities in
the meat processing industry in accordance with organisational
requirements.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: clean
rendering department machinery, equipment and facilities;
demonstrate team-work; and comply with organisational and
statutory hygiene and safety requirements.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Cleaning systems are operated in accordance with organisational and statutory
requirements.
1.2
Daily and periodic rendering cleaning programmes are completed in
accordance with organisational and statutory requirements.
1.3
Effluent disposal from cleaning operations meets organisational and statutory
requirements.
1.4
Work surfaces, floors, walls, ceilings, machinery and equipment are cleaned in
accordance with organisational and statutory requirements for wet and dry
cleaning.
1.5
All remaining traces of contamination are removed from equipment and
machinery with approved detergents, cleaning chemicals, scrubbing brushes
and scouring pads in accordance with organisational and statutory
requirements.
1.6
Chemical types and dilutions meet organisational requirements for the surface
and contaminant involved.
1.7
Moisture sensitive equipment is cleaned and protected in accordance with
organisational and manufacturer’s requirements.
1.8
Objects likely to obstruct drains are picked up and disposed of in accordance
with organisational requirements.
1.9
The hygiene standards of cleaned areas meet organisational and statutory
requirements.
1.10
The cleaning process avoids re-contamination of cleaned areas in accordance
with organisational requirements.
1.11

2.1

Co-workers are not endangered through the operator's methods and
equipment.
2.5
Co-worker assistance is provided within the confines of product flow and
operator space.
2.6
Machinery, equipment, and facility malfunctions are identified and reported to
supervisory staff in accordance with organisational requirements.
2.7
Conflict resolution techniques are applied to minimise interpersonal differences
with co-workers which may adversely affect team performance.
