This entry level unit standard is for people who are employed in
the rendering departments at meat processing plants and who
are required to operate a blow line to transfer raw materials.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: operate a
blow line; maintain a blow line operation; and comply with
organisational and statutory hygiene and safety requirements
during rendering operations.

Definitions
Organisational requirements – instructions to staff on policies and procedures which
are documented in memo, electronic or manual format and are available in the
workplace.
Raw materials – any animal tissue intended as a by-product that has not undergone
any treatment or has not been modified in any way. Raw materials may be
refrigerated or stabilised by chemical treatment.

Raw material consistency is monitored in accordance with organisational
requirements.
1.3
Blow temperature is monitored and adjusted in accordance with organisational
requirements.
1.4
Quantity of raw materials in blow tank is monitored in accordance with
organisational requirements.

Maintain a blow line operation during rendering operations.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Blockages are identified and cleared to maintain raw materials flow through
blow line in accordance with organisational requirements.
2.2
Blow line is cleaned regularly in accordance with organisational requirements.
2.3
Blow line maintenance is completed in accordance with organisational
requirements.
Outcome 3
Comply with organisational and statutory hygiene and safety requirements during
rendering operations.

Evidence requirements

staff in accordance with organisational requirements.
3.5
Equipment, operator and work area cleanliness comply with organisational and
statutory requirements.
