New Business Maui Food Innovation Center (MFIC) update – C. Speere & Susan Wyche o Susan o Culinary Incubator; many connected with universities & community college o UHMC will be first incubator in Hawai’i o Initial capital funding 1.225M, additional funding 2.67M, 500K feasibility study o Money is available, waiting on Governor’s office to release. o Program includes Facility, Education, and Services. o Chris o Contact Chris & Susan at any time for more details about project. o Provides resource & training to be food entrepreneurs o Education: a four course series, SBA growth accelerator o Facility: Pilina Building, 2nd floor, Laulima 106 Kitchen / Classroom o Food Summit II, Oct. 2015, to create a food incubation network. o Laura: Income from space rental? o Susan: multiple sources of income o products, facility use, consulting, courses, state & federal grant funding o MFIC is partially self-sustaining, grants to augment. o Probably a non-profit but still part of UH. o Laura: Is college responsible to underfunded situations o Susan: No, building pipeline for operations & education revenues.
