People credited with this unit standard are able to inspect and test 230 volt electrically powered equipment for condition, and service 230 volt electrically powered equipment components. Explanatory notes 1 Unit standard Range this unit standard includes but is not limited to – mowers, trimmers, golf carts, floor polishers, and mobility vehicles. 2 Reference to suitable tools and equipment means industry approved tools and equipment that are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to complete the task to a professional and competent manner with due regard to safe working practices. 3 The following legislation and standards and their amendments are to be consulted and followed where applicable: – Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992 – NZS 3100: Approval and Test Specifications; General Requirements for Electrical Equipment, 1994. 4 Reference to company requirements means that the standard must comply with any procedures and requirements of the company involved, and the ethical codes of relevant professional management organisations. 5 Because of the particular nature of this unit standard, it is essential that the practical assessment evidence is obtained from commercial jobs in the workplace under normal workplace conditions. Evidence requirements 1.1 Safe working practices are observed throughout the task. Range personal safety, safety of others, equipment safety. 1.2 Suitable tools and equipment are selected and used to enable the electrically powered equipment to be inspected and tested. 1.3 Customer requirements are identified and recorded for future reference. 1.4 Tests are carried out in a manner that ensures any faults are accurately identified and located. 1.5 Equipment is dismantled according to manufacturer’s instructions to enable an assessment of the component’s condition to be carried out. 1.6 A visual inspection is completed and any defects are noted and reported to the supervisor. Outcome 2 Service 230 volt electrically powered equipment components. Evidence requirements 2.1 Safe working practices are observed throughout the task. Range personal safety, safety of others, equipment safety. 2.2 Suitable tools and equipment are selected and used to enable electrically powered equipment components to be repaired and/or replaced according to manufacturer’s manual instructions. 2.3 Components are repaired and/or replaced according to a condition report so that the electrically powered equipment functions according to manufacturer’s specifications and company requirements. 2.4 Electrically powered equipment is operated to ensure all components function according to manufacturer’s specifications and company requirements. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
