NZQA Expiring unit standard 3880 version 7 Page 1 of 3 Title Demonstrate knowledge of and maintain equipment used in a motor body shop Level 2 Credits 3 Purpose This unit standard is for people who are at pre-employment level or who have recently started work in the motor body industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of equipment used in the motor body industry, and maintain equipment under supervision. Classification Motor Industry > Vehicle Bodywork Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 The following legislation (and subsequent amendments) are applicable to this unit standard and must be followed where applicable: – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 Company policy includes workplace standards, practices, and procedures, which must comply with current legislation requirements. It is assumed the policy also meets product manufacturers' specifications, recommendations, and standards. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of equipment used in a motor body shop. Range compressor, spray booth, airline system, transformer, air cleaners, air dryers, oil lubricators, dust extraction systems, body alignment equipment and measuring systems, floor jack, porto power, hoists. Evidence requirements 1.1 Purpose and operation of equipment is identified according to the manufacturer‘s specifications. 1.2 Safety precautions required when working with equipment are identified according to manufacturer's specifications and company policy. 1.3 Manufacturer’s instructions are identified to establish manufacturer‘s specifications for operation and use. Range air cleaners, oil lubricators, spray booth, compressor, dust extraction equipment, floor jack, body alignment and measuring equipment. Evidence requirements 2.1 Air cleaning equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications, and the air is clean and dry. Range 2.2 air cleaner, transformer, air line drain legs. Oil lubricators are maintained according to manufacturer‘s specifications. Range attached to airline, attached to machine. 2.3 Spray booth and/or oven is free of dirt and dust and is maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications and company policy. 2.4 Dust extraction equipment is maintained according to manufacturer‘s specifications and company policy. 2.5 Compressor is maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications. 2.6 Floor jack is maintained according to manufacturer‘s specifications. 2.7 Body alignment and measuring equipment are maintained according to manufacturer's specifications. 2.8 Problems or damage to equipment are reported to supervisor according to company policy. 2.9 Safe working practices are carried out when maintaining the equipment. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
