The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard:
a All required equipment must be set up, started up, operated, and shut down in
accordance with company procedures.
b All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required
under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and subsequent and
delegated legislation.
c All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite environmental procedures (where these exceed code) for personal,
product, and worksite environmental matters, and must meet the obligations
required under the Resource Management Act 1991, and subsequent and
delegated legislation.
d All work practices must meet documented worksite quality management
requirements. These include documentation of activities, events, and decisions.
e All communications made in relation to this unit standard must be made in
accordance with company procedures for content, recipient, timing, and method.

‘Boats’ are defined as complete boats, or major sub-components or ancillary systems
including: hull and decks; mast, spars and rigging; major interior joinery modules.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Establish job requirements for the repair, restoration, and structural alteration of aluminium
boats.
Performance criteria
1.1
Job specifications are obtained and verified in accordance with company
procedures.
1.2
Boat is examined to determine the nature and extent of work required according
to job specifications, and anomalies are reported in accordance with company
procedures.
Range
1.3
work – repair, restoration, structural alteration, and combinations.
Existing defects and damage not subject to the specified work are identified and
communicated in accordance with company procedures.
Element 2
Prepare boats for the required work.
Performance criteria
2.1
Materials and tools required for the job are selected and obtained in accordance
with job specifications.

2.2
Support is provided for boats so that they remain stable, and their original
shape is retained, throughout the work.
2.3
Protection is provided for existing equipment, fittings, furnishings, and surfaces
in accordance with job specifications.

Element 3
Carry out the required work.
Performance criteria
3.1
Parts to be repaired are disassembled according to job specifications.
3.2
Joint types are examined, repaired, and replaced according to job
specifications.
3.3
Broken components are examined, repaired, and replaced according to job
specifications.
3.4
Replacement components and materials are selected and installed according to
job specifications.
Element 4
Prepare boats for handing over to clients.
Performance criteria
4.1
Surfaces and finishes are reinstated according to job specifications.
4.2
Protected items are reinstated and checked according to job specifications.
4.3
Action is taken in accordance with company procedures in the event of
unforeseen circumstances which prevent the achievement of job specifications.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
