These include documentation of activities, events, and decisions; d All communications made in relation to this unit standard must be made in accordance with company procedures for content, recipient, timing, and method. 4 This unit standard can be assessed against on job. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Carry out preparation for painting. Performance criteria 1.1 Job specifications are obtained and verified in accordance with company procedures. Range 1.2 Protection is provided for existing equipment, fittings, furnishings, and surfaces in accordance with job specifications. Range 1.3 specifications – paint types, colours, combination and number of coats, drying times, standard of finish, standard of sanding profiles. protection in situ, protection by removal and safe storage, electrical protection. Planning of own work schedule enables required coating system to be applied to required standard and within agreed time-frames. Range plan – sequence and timing of activities. Performance criteria 2.1 Previous coats are post-cured in accordance with company requirements. 2.2 Sanding between coats is carried out in accordance with specifications for the sanding profile. Range 2.3 specifications – manufacturer’s specifications and/or customer's requirements. Actions taken ensure that the work area is kept free of possible surface contaminants. Range actions – tenting, washing, solvent wiping, tack ragging; contaminants – dust, water, oil. Element 3 Apply coatings. Range by brush, roller, and spray. Performance criteria 3.1 Coatings are applied in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications for method of application, thinning, re-coat windows, and use of additives. 3.2 Surface conforms to manufacturer’s specifications and/or customer's requirements, for standard of finish and level of gloss. 3.3 The combination and number of coats applied conform to job requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated autho rity for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
