Job Purpose
To coordinate and manage a programme of activities for children at the
Kapers play scheme in the school holidays.
To provide a fun, safe and welcoming environment in which the children
receive a high level of ‘play’ and education.

Key Duties
To be responsible for the Health and Safety of the children attending
the Play Schemes and ensure that the children’s welfare is paramount.
To ensure that a high standard of supervision is maintained at all times.
To be aware of implications of the Children’s Act in relation to Play
Schemes.
To manage the provision of a range of activities for the children,
including sports, arts and crafts etc.
To create a child-centred environment in the spirit of play-work.
To achieve a high retention rate by supporting the Scheme Assistants
to provide a vibrant and stimulating environment for the children.
To manage records, including attendance data, medical records,
accident/incident reports and other records as required.
To communicate positively with parents/guardians.
To encourage children’s contribution to play activities during the
scheme.
To supervise set-up and pack-away of equipment, cleaning and
maintenance, ensuring buildings are hygienic, tidy and safe each day.
To carry out risk assessments and health and safety checks prior to
each session commencing.
To assist in the marketing and promotion of the play scheme.
To assist with the storage of equipment during sessions and movment
between venues.
To attend training that contributes to personal and career development
and to support other staff with training requirements.
To maintain open communication with the team of play assistants and
the Sport Development Officer at all times.
To liaise with SDC Officers and OFSTED Inspectors to ensure the
National Standards are upheld
To adhere to all council policy including Child Protection, Equal
Opportunities and Health and Safety.
To work flexibly to undertake any appropriate duties not specifically
covered in the job description when assigned by your line manager.
Work subject to interruption of the programme of tasks but not
involving any significant change to the programme.
Skills,
Knowledge and
Experience
Experience of working with children and young people in a play work,
school,youth work or sport environment.
Excellent communication, organisational and reporting skills
An understanding of administrative processes and systems
Experience of leading a team
Ability to enthuse and manage a group of children effectively, in a childcentred manner
Play work qualification / coaching awards level 1 or equivalent e.g.:
CSL
Awareness of Child Protection Procedures
Ability to undertake work concerning more advanced tasks
confined to one function or area of activity, which require a good
standard of practical knowledge and skills in that area of activity.

Creativity
Manage inquires from parents or guardians and take decisive and
appropriate action in accordance with the SDC policy and procedure.
To ensure that adequate staff cover is available at all times
Manage out-of-facility activities within the SDC and national guidance
Assist your manager in ensuring that a positive team ethos is
engendered and maintained. Be a positive team member
Creativity is a feature of the job but exercised within the general
