To monitor and support the overall progress, achievement and development of students To develop and monitor appropriate methods of assessment to raise student achievement. Working Time: Curriculum Leader The progress of students across all Key Stages Senior Leadership Team, relevant teaching and support staff, external agencies and parents 195 days per year. Full time Salary/Grade: TPS + TLR 2a MAIN (CORE) DUTIES : LEADERSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING :accountability for quality of teaching, assessment and student performance To work with the Curriculum Leader to carry out the following: Strategic Planning To lead the curriculum team in the development of assessment, including tracking, monitoring the impact of intervention strategies and AfL. To work with colleagues to formulate a vision, coherent aims, objectives and strategic Departmental Improvement Plan relevant to the different needs of students and to the aims, objectives and strategic plans of the school. Support the Curriculum leader in maintaining an effective learning environment and in managing resources. Curriculum Development: To work with the Curriculum Leader to carry out the following: To keep up to date with national developments, teaching practice and methodology, including the use of ICT and how they might impact on student achievement. To lead the development of AfL: identify and share best practice in peer and selfassessment, questioning and reviewing learning and progress in the classroom To actively monitor and respond to curriculum developments and initiatives at national, regional and local level. To promote the specialist school ethos of ‘Learning through Thinking’ and develop PLTS. Quality Assurance: To work with the Curriculum Leader to carry out the following: To work with the Curriculum Leader to ensure the effective implementation of the school’s ‘Monitoring and Evaluation’ programme e.g. tracking progress, sampling students’ work, monitoring the quality of reports, monitoring the quality of marking To use comparative data effectively to monitor the progress of individual and groups of students, identify barriers to learning and implement / monitor intervention strategies to support student learning and achievement. To set appropriate targets within the curriculum areas and to work towards their achievement. To ensure that the school’s Behaviour Management Strategy is implemented within the curriculum areas so that effective learning can take place. Student Progress To support the Curriculum Leader students across the Key Stages : who is accountable for the performance of To ensure that students make good levels of progress KS2-4. To support the school’s Assessment Policy by monitoring its consistent implementation across the team. To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning the curriculum area. To collect, analyse and make use of performance data to support student achievement. To lead to the curriculum area’s analysis of on examination performance, including the use of value-added data. To monitor and support the overall progress and personal development of students within the curriculum area. To provide co-ordinated intervention programmes to support students’ progress. To support effective transition for students from KS2-KS3 or 14-19 within the curriculum area. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Linemanagement of staff : To work with the Curriculum Leader to carry out the following: Effective Communications: To work with the Curriculum Leader, to lead and support colleagues within the curriculum area. To ensure that staff development needs are identified and appropriate programmes are planned to support professional development. To undertake Performance Management Review(s) and to act as Team Leader for a group of staff within the designated curriculum areas. To make appropriate arrangements for classes when staff are absent. To participate in the recruitment of staff and to ensure their effective induction. To promote teamwork and develop effective working relationships. To participate in the school’s ITT programme. To work with the Curriculum Leader to carry out the following: To communicate a clear vision for the curriculum area. To ensure effective consultation with parents and outside agencies. To liaise with partner schools, higher education, Industry, Examination Boards, Awarding Bodies and other relevant external bodies. To work collaboratively with partner schools and the Post-16 Centre. To contribute to the school’s marketing strategy. Other Specific Duties: Provide a positive role model for teaching and learning, delivering consistently ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ lessons. Make a distinctive contribution to the raising of pupil standards. Contribute effectively to the work of the wider team. Take advantage of appropriate opportunities for professional development and use the outcomes effectively to improve pupils’ learning. Play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive ethos and to ensure that staff and students to follow this example. To engage actively in the performance review process. To undertake a designated programme of teaching in either the 11-16 phase of The Elizabethan Academy or both the 11-16 phase and the Retford Post-16 Centre. To undertake any other duty as specified by STPCB not mentioned in the above.
