IV: Best Practices
O Photos:
O Always edit your photos before uploading them into
the WCM if possible.
O Photo editing software: Photoshop, MS Word, MS
Paint.
O WCM has some photo editing features, but limited
mostly to resizing, do not resize multiple times.
O Use proper naming conventions for images. No
spaces, descriptive, include file type suffix (JPEG,
etc)
O Keep all photos in the image folder

O Naming Conventions:
O Keep names short, avoid references to editions,
file/doc name should be descriptive.
O Including the date or month/year is a good idea.
O Avoid spaces in the file name, use underscores
instead
O Always include a descriptive “alt text” for the image.
This will help comply with accessibility requirements.

O Organization:
O Always keep same files with like files.
O Docs and pdfs in the DOC folder, images in the
Image folder, etc.
O For web pages, reduce links when possible.
O Keep navigations and menus as clean, allows for
better surfing by users.
O Do not directly link PDFs or DOCs in the left-hand
navigation.
O Look at other model department pages for
inspiration or reference.
