ACCOUNTING II Syllabus Teacher: Mrs. Y. McCall Email: ymccall@houstonisd.org Westside High School Course Objective: This course introduces students to general accounting concepts, principles, and procedures. Students will have the opportunity to use real –world accounting software, business documents, and financial statements. Students complete practice sets or simulations, use calculators, and process some data electronically. Students will also develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for individuals to conduct personal business or to further an education in the field of accounting. Course Outline: Review Accounting Cycle for Merchandising Business Accounting Cycle for Publicly Held Corporations Accounting for Partnerships Ethics in Accounting Specialized Accounting Procedures Electronic Accounting QuickBooks Required Materials: Pen (no red) Pencil with eraser Pocket Folder (any color) Package of Loose Leaf Notebook Paper Calculator – basic function Evaluation: Students are responsible for earning their own grades. Students will have every opportunity to earn an “A”, but it depends entirely on the student’s effort. Late work must be done. Evaluation is based on a “total points” system. Exams, Projects Daily Assignments, Quizzes, Professionalism, articles *Participation 70% 20% 10% *Participation includes group work, notebook/journal checks, class participation, assessment analysis, and internet assignments. Exams are open notes (not open book). It is extremely important to take good notes. All assignments, handouts and notes are to be kept in a pocket folder. Retakes are limited to major assignments.
