Week of November 17-21, 2014 Teacher: Kindred Team: U.S. History Weekly Learning Targets I can identify reasons for the rise of the dictatorships of Benito Mussolini in Italy, Adolf Hitler in Germany and Emperor Hirohito in Japan. Monday I can analyze the Holocaust as an example of genocide from the World War II era. Activities: 1. Do Now- List 2 effects of World War I on Europe. 2. Introduction to Fascist Dictatorships- Students will define fascism and identify characteristics of a fascist government. 3. Cooperative Learning: Fascist Dictators- In groups, students will analyze an article regarding the dictatorships of Mussolini, Hirohito or Hitler. Students will describe how the actions of these leaders led to World War II. Then, students will compare the three leaders. Materials: Articles, handouts Follow Up/HW: Great Depression and New Deal TEST TOMORROW Tuesday Activities: 1. Do Now- Take out a pencil and your Great Depression Review Sheet. 2. Unit 4 Assessment: The Great Depression and the New Deal- Students will complete a multiple choice exam on Unit 4. Materials: Test Follow Up/HW: Snapshot on FRIDAY Wed/Thur Activities: 1. Do Now- Which group of people was targeted by Nazis? 2. Holocaust Vocabulary- Students will define key terms such as genocide and anti-Semitism 3. Document Analysis: Nazi Propaganda- Students will analyze 3 examples of Nazi propaganda 4. Quick Write: Kristallnacht- Students will write a diary entry from the perspective of a Jewish person experiencing the events of the “Night of Broken Glass” 5. Sensory Figure Analysis: The Final Solution- Students will create sensory figures representing the Jews upon their arrival to a concentration camp. Materials: Notes, video, article Follow Up/HW: Snapshot on FRIDAY Friday I can describe how these dictatorships and their aggressive policies led to World War II. Activities: 1. Do Now- Define “Final Solution” 2. Path to Peace: Road to War- Students will analyze Hitler’s conquests and determine whether or not the policy of appeasement was successful. 3.
