Activities:
1. Do Now- List the 3 Progressive Presidents.
2. Progressive Presidents Review- Students will review the actions of Presidents Roosevelt, Taft
and Wilson. Students will describe how their actions reflect Progressive Reform.
3. Women’s Suffrage Video Analysis- Students will analyze a women’s suffrage video and
describe how this issue represents the Progressive era.
4. Women’s Suffrage Timeline- In groups, students will attempt to sequence the events of the
women’s suffrage movement.
5. Women’s Suffrage Document Analysis- Students will read and analyze the Declaration of
Sentiments. *DAILY GRADE*

1. Do Now- Sharpen pencils and prepare for test.
2. Test Review- Students will review content for the Populists and Progressives Test
3. Populists and Progressives Test- Students will answer 20 multiple choice questions over Part I
of Unit 2. *MAJOR GRADE*

I can identify Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson as progressive U.S. Presidents
and tell how their domestic policy reflected Progressive reforms.
I can define the 19th amendment and describe how it impacted American society during the Progressive era.
I can describe the economic and political effects of the Spanish-American War and the rise of the United
States into a position of world power.
Using maps and primary/secondary sources, I can explain why the U.S. wanted to expand her influence abroad
and how Henry Cabot Lodge, Alfred Thayer Mahan, Sanford B. Dole, and missionaries in Hawaii contributed
to this expansionist ideal.
I can analyze how physical and human factors affected the building of the Panama Canal.
Activities:
1. Do Now- What motivates a nation to expand its empire?
2. Imperialism Vocabulary- Students will define essential unit vocabulary.
3. Document Analysis: Imperialism- In groups, students will analyze a speech made to Congress
by a senator in 1900 favoring expansion.
4. Spanish American War: Video Analysis- Students will analyze a video detailing the events of
the Spanish American War.
5. Begin Imperialism Stations Activity- In groups, students will rotate to different stations and
gather information on various examples of American imperialism, including annexation of
Hawaii and the construction of the Panama Canal.
