Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Reporting to the Project Manager within the University of Nevada, Reno's Integrated Marketing team, the Web Content Strategist works with website analytics and key campus constituencies to streamline and continuously enhance the University’s homepage, top-level and high-traffic websites. Specializing in information architecture, content strategy and marketing-based writing, this position assists marketing colleagues in implementing web initiatives and social media efforts across the institution. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 45% - Content Strategy Develop and execute strategies to match informational content on top-level websites to user needs as defined by website analytics and market research Develop and execute systems and processes to ensure that content on top-level websites is relevant and accurate Serve as managing editor of the University’s news and events websites, giving special attention to priorities established by the Office of the President Participate in discussions about content management system (CMS) strategy and development Provide occasional consultation to those University divisions without dedicated website support, including website construction, updates and feature implementation 25% - Project Management Serve as a project manager of top-level initiatives, planning new websites and the work required for developing them in the CMS Shepherd projects to completion by working with team members to maintain creative direction of the final product Interact with clients to ensure that their needs are met AND that the project benefits the University as a whole 15% - Content Production Write narrative prose, explanatory text, headlines and calls-to-action for university websites and print publications Conduct background interviews with pertinent on-campus subject experts Produce the weekly news/events email for distribution to all faculty and staff 15% - Social Media Strategy and Maintenance Develop and execute strategies to sustain and grow the University’s social media presence on websites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc. Develop and execute systems and processes to distribute responsibility for content production to department colleagues and other units on campus. Level of Freedom: While the department's broad goals and strategies are set by the Executive Director and team leadership, the Web Content Strategist is responsible for crafting specific strategies to execute those broad goals. The position makes frequent independent decisions regarding strategy, content, presentation and various editorial judgments, provided they fall within the direction given by the Executive Director. Impact: As a unique position within the department, this position plays an indispensable role in achieving the department’s goals and strategies.
