Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Director of the Associated Students of University of Nevada (ASUN) Center for Student Engagement (CSE) reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Life/Dean of Students and is responsible for developing innovative campus-wide vision for student engagement and strategies that align with the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), University, and Division of Student Services Vision Statement and strategic plans. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 35% - Long-Term Planning and Oversight Develop and implement unit-wide strategic planning related to student engagement and student development that align with NSHE, University and Student Services strategic plans Direct all aspects of campus-wide student engagement initiatives funded by ASUN including academic and student development support programs, campus programming, marketing and media, student and staff leadership development, civic engagement, and program assessment Administer student fees and endowments Initiate data and assessment activities to guide long-term planning and development of strategic plans Develop administrative procedures and polices for a diversity of programs and recommend university wide policies 30% - Program Development and Management Develop and implement programs within the ASUN CSE Oversee all data, assessment and reporting of multiple academic and student support programs Assist the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students and staff in program implementation including new student initiatives and emergency support programs Develop, implement, and assess campus-wide civic engagement initiatives Develop, implement and assess academic initiative programs that align with University and divisional goals and priorities Assess the educational and developmental needs of the student population Develop partnerships to implement successful programs between ASUN, university and community entities Prepare and oversee all ASUN budgets and the spending and reconciliation of accounts Comply with all required reports to State and Federal agencies with regard to laws, rules, and regulation compliance 25% - Staff and Student Supervision and Development Supervise, evaluate and train professional, Classified, graduate assistants and student staff Develop and advise senior student leadership including the ASUN Executive Branch, Legislative Affairs and the ASUN Senate Budget and Finance Committee Seek and develop staff opportunities in the areas of higher education administration, student development, and presentations at regional and national conferences Position Description – Director, ASUN Center for Student Engagement Page 3 10% - Teaching and Research Develop, prepare, submit, and present educational proposals at local, regional and national conferences Publish works with an emphsis on higher education administration and/or student engagement Teach for credit in the academic classroom on leadership and professional growth 3. Level of Freedom: The Director of CSE is responsible for the development and implementation of support programs that compliment the academic and student development mission of the University. The Director is responsible for creating and sustaining an active, engaging learning environment that compliments University and divisional recruitment, persistance and graduation rates. The individual must work independently, with initiative, and with high latitude in decisionsaffecting student safety, liability, leadership, and fiscal management . Impact: Poor decisions are magnified and can result in a negative reputation for the Division, University, and NSHE. Not following University and NSHE policies and regulations could result in an unsafe environment for students and result in legal liability for the University. Training in student leadership is critical in order to maintain working relationships and to accomplish the University’s mission. Failure to convey the safety of this campus directly affects recruitment, retention and graduation goals. Failure to build relationships and develop influential student leaders can lead to a misalignment of system, university and divisional goals. Failure to provide these services directly impacts recruitment, persistance and graduation rates of the student population. This position and the complex diverse unit it supervises is very visible to the public and therefore has a direct impact on the perception of the University and its reputation. 4.
