1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Associate Director for Programs and Services is a key part of the Associated Students University
of Nevada (ASUN) Center for Student Engagement (CSE). The CSE is grounded in Council for
Advancement of Standards (CAS) and learning outcomes to generate assessment of various
programs that engage, develop and connect students to the University. The Associate Director is
responsible for assessing student engagement of all programs and services, supervision of numerous
programs; all marketing and media efforts; directly supervises administrative faculty and student
employees; develops and implements policies and procedures and communicates them to staff and
students; and monitors budget and contractual obligations. The Associate Director reports to and
works closely with the Director of the ASUN CSE in developing administrative faculty and student
development programs, state and campus-wide leadership programs, academic and new student
initiatives, strategic plans and research assessment of all programs and services.

40% - Supervision and Training
 Hire, supervise, train, evaluate staff
 Develop and implement a comprehensive student development model to increase retention,
persistence and graduation of student employees
 Assist development, implementation and evaluation of administrative faculty and student
employee development programs
 Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of campus-wide student leadership
programs
 Work with Director to develop, implement and evaluate strategic plans and research
assessment of all programs and services
 Direct decision making around campus safety, programmatic efforts and media relations
20% - Marketing and Public Relations
 Review and approve requests for marketing and media services
 Assign/monitor marketing and design strategies for all programs and services
 Coordinate overall marketing strategy for ASUN CSE
 Oversee development, updates, and publication of marketing materials including print, web,
video, TV ads, social media, newspaper ads, brochures and other pertinent publications
 Plan editorial content and timelines for departmental websites
 Administer approval process for all editorial, marketing and communications content
 Ensure all marketing and media conveys the value of diversity in all its forms: race, gender,
age, discipline, etc.
 Administer graphic standards guide and all policies and procedures related to marketing and
media efforts on behalf of ASUN
 Coordinate marketing and public relations of programs and services to the University and
public
 Collaborate with University Media Relations and Integrated Marketing departments
 Review and update University and NSHE policy that impacts marketing and media efforts

20% - Assessment
 Administer research and assessment of all programs, student outcomes, and services
including Academic Initiatives, New Student Initiatives, Advertising, Campus Escort, Sound
and Lights, Scholarships, Front Desk operations, Inkblot Promotions, Employee Development,
Food Pantry, and Leadership Initiatives
 Administer and implement strategic plans in relation to University, division and unit goals
 Compile data/statistics to support service funding and staffing
 Implement regular assessment of quality of service delivery and make relevant changes based
on assessment results
 Use assessment data to support funding requests and use of human and capital resources
 Use assessment results to strategically plan for future expansion in accordance with the
University master plan
10% Programming Management
 Oversee and administer numerous revenue and expenditure budgets with signatory
responsibility and allocate these financial resources
 Direct the daily operations of the CSE including space and operational allocation decisions,
resource allocations, and front desk operations
 Administer and oversee comprehensive marketing and media strategies for programs and
services
 Administer and prepare comprehensive reports and presentations of programs and services to
varied audiences
 Manage assigned projects and conduct research
 Administer and oversee ASUN Scholarship program
 Develop and administer policy and procedures for various programs and services
 Administer, implement and monitor important Nevada Revised Statute (NRS), copyright law,
music, photos, content and fair usage
 Represent the Director in her/his absence
10% - Advising and Professional Development
 Advise various officers including members of the ASUN marketing and media personnel
 Advise student employees on personal growth and personal accountability
 Develop and present workshops and seminars at regional and national conferences
 Attend professional development workshops, conferences and trainings
 Represent CSE, Student Life and/or the Division of Student Services in meetings, on
committees and in workgroups both on and off campus

Level of Freedom:
The Associate Director ensures safety, marketing, research, technology and assessment of all ASUN
CSE programs and services meet NSHE, University, and division and unit goals. The position
independently resolves diverse and difficult problems with innovative solutions and methods. The
Associate Director must work in an environment that is constantly changing to reflect the needs of
students. The position must possess the judgment to apply broad policies to problems and situations
not falling clearly within precedent and must be flexible in methodology used to meet changing
conditions around student safety, marketing, technology and public relations.

Impact:
The Associate Director plays a key role in shaping the perception of an active and safe student life on
campus both by marketing the plethora of student services and activities and by underscoring the safe
environment thereby affecting recruitment, retention and persistence efforts. The position assists with
research and assessment of programs and services to ensure continued funding. A failure to carry
out assessment responsibilities directly impacts delivery of programs and services. Failure to
efficiently solve problems and make decisions can affect the wide range of highly visible programs
and services offered by ASUN. The position must create a rapport with a crucial constituency that
wield tremendous influence in university wide-decision making. This requires the ability to pursue and
convince student leadership to support university-wide initiatives through use of data and assessment.
