Dear Family,
I want to let you know about the
Literacy Concepts I have been working on in
class. Please help me use these concepts as
I read and write at home with you.
Literacy Concepts
 Top to Bottom progression-I show you
this by moving my finger or I begin to
write, starting from the top and moving
to the bottom.
 Left to Right progression-I can show you
this by moving my finger or I begin to
write, starting from the left and moving
to the right.
 Cover and Title Page-I can show you this
and tell you about each of these.
 Author and Illustrator-I can tell you
where to locate these and what each
person does for the book.
 Tracking print- I can point at each word
when I read.
 Periods and Question Marks-I can find
them in a story and tell you what they
mean. I can also use them when I write.
 Finger spaces in between words when I
write. I make a space in-between each
word when I write a sentence.
 Using phonetic spelling-I can spell
words by myself if I say the words
slowly.
Please remember I need A LOT of practice and
positive reinforcement when I work.
Kindergarten = PROGRESS OVER TIME.
