Q1. Describe the structure and function of the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane.
Q2. Compare and contrast the procaryotic and eucaryotic cell types.
Q3. Write an essay titled "Gene transfer in bacteria".
Q4. Describe the process of transcription of messenger RNA (mRNA) in bacteria.
Q5. Microorganisms can be classified based on their tolerance of molecular oxygen
(O2). Discuss this statement with reference to the strategies used by different
microorganisms cope with molecular oxygen.
Q6. Microbial cell numbers can be measured in a number of different ways. Describe
the details of at least two methods for measuring microbial cell numbers.
Q7. Compare and contrast homolactic and heterolactic fermentation
pathways.
Q8. Describe in detail the operation of the electron transport chain and associated
oxidative phosphorylation in eucaryotes. Briefly comment on the differences between
eucaryotic and procaryotic processes.
