First Grade 2015-2016 Miss Rogers Here are a few friendly reminders as we kick off the new school year! Daily Schedule Regular Schedule: 8:30-2:50, Morning Bell: 8:25. Lunch/Recess: 10:55-11:40. Mon: Art Tues: Library Wed: Music & P.E. Thurs: P.E. Fri: Music Transportation To ensure that each child gets home safely, the dismissal schedule becomes a strict routine. Any day that the pick-up routine is different, you must send a note. If I do not receive a note, I must follow the normal routine. If your plans change during the day, please call the office at 847-438-2163. Home Folder Each day, your child will take home their “Home Folder.” The folder will contain work that your child completes in class, homework, and notes from school. The folder should return every morning. Please put any notes for me or the school and homework assignments in the folder. Newsletters I will send all newsletters (Friday Notes) home electronically every other week. If you would like me to use an email that is different than the one that received the Welcome Letter, please let me know. Daily Reading Your child is required to read for 75 minutes a week. You can spread that out however it fits your schedule. There will be books sent home to read (Book Bags), MyOn (our online reading program), and you can include minutes that you read to your child. Watch for monthly calendars to record your minutes. Homework I usually send a homework page once a week. I also expect children to be reading and practicing Words Their Way daily. Math Games are a big part of our curriculum, please continue to play them throughout the year. All homework should be checked over by an adult, and if necessary, corrections should be made. Please complete all homework in pencil. Birthday Celebrations All birthdays will be celebrated throughout the school year but will not include any food. (If you would like, non-edible, goody bag type items are allowed.) All summer birthdays will be celebrated on the child’s half birthday. Please only send birthday party invitations to be passed out at school if the entire class is being invited. Snack Due to a variety of allergies in first grade, we are asking for the daily snack to consist of fresh fruit, vegetables, or squeezable applesauce ONLY. Dried fruit is also a great option if it is not in conjunction with a trail mix. We ask that dipping sauces or foods requiring utensils be left for lunches or home use. We need to balance an energy boost with the safety of our students and our busy schedules as first graders. Scholastic Book Orders I will periodically send home book orders. The Scholastic Book Club provides quality books at appropriate first grade levels at discounted prices. You are never under any obligation to order books. Class Website Our website is a great resource for parents and students. I will continue to update it throughout the year, please check it frequently! http://www.lz95.org/classes/missrogerssclass_jrogers/ School: 847-438-2163 Attendance: 847-540-4797 Classroom: 847-540-4759 Important Numbers Contact Me As a partner in your child’s education, I invite you to contact me with any questions or concerns.
