Dear Parents, As part of our biography unit, third grade will be creating a Wax Museum to learn more about influential figures throughout history. Sent home in an email is a document containing a list of possibilities for your child to select from for his/her person. Please help your child select at least five people he/she is interested in studying for the Wax Museum biography, as we will not duplicate any person in the Wax Museum, and your child’s first choice may already be selected. Have your child write these choices down on the attached sheet and return sheet to school by Friday, March 11. This list is not exhaustive. If there is someone your child is interested in researching, please let me know by sending a note or email. However, please keep in mind that we are studying people who have made a significant impact in the world. In other words, many athletes or people of pop culture would not meet this requirement. The Wax Museum project will be done entirely at home. Your child will need help locating resources to use and also putting a costume together. This costume does not have to be elaborate, but it should clearly represent the person your child is studying. The research, written speech, Venn diagram, and list of references should be completed by your child. Your child will need assistance in memorizing and preparing the speech. (The speech needs to be about 2 minutes long, give or take 10 seconds.) Specific expectations for the Wax Museum are listed on the included rubric. Remind your child to refer to this rubric as he/she prepares and works on the Wax Museum. Your child will be presenting his/her speech to both our class and other classes beginning April 18. More information regarding the school visitation of the Wax Museum and Open House will be coming at a later date. Thank you very much for your help on this fun and exciting project! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Sincerely, The Third Grade Team
