Meeting Minutes
November 26, 2014
Approved Minutes
Opening:
The meeting for St. Augustine Parent Council was called to order at 7:00 pm on November 26th in the main office
conference room.

Angy Sayegh
Regrets: Nigel Francis, Gloria Mullin
Absent: Paulette Haye
Opening Prayer:
The meeting commenced with an opening prayer.
Review of Previous Minutes:
The October 23rd minutes were reviewed. The minutes were approved with one correction (name correction).
Principal’s Update:
Boys Night In: This event was taking place on the evening of the meeting.
School Business: The school is advocating for mixed technology and smart boards. A list of being provided of required
items for consideration from the school board, such as ceiling tiles on the 2nd floor, a boiler for the school, and water
filter set up.
School Funding Suggestions: The school provided a list of ideas for council to consider if School Council Funding is
available. Mr. Francis forwarded the list for consideration:

Cardio Exercise Equipment
2. Television Monitor in the forum. “The goal is to place a monitor in the Forum as a communication tool to promote student life, special events, celebrations, as well as a place for communicating results of student
lead initiatives, such as surveys and other student-centered communications.”

Outdoor Basketball Nets

Outdoor Score Board... this would help to build school spirit and increase participation at our games.
Breakfast Program: St. Augustine received $4000.00 in funding to be utilized for the Breakfast Program.
Parish Representative’s Update:
The St Jerome's Christmas Bazaar is on Saturday November 29 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. They are still looking for
volunteers and if interested participants should call the parish office. The parish is accepting donations of baked goods.
Christmas Baskets will be prepared for families within the school.

Treasurer’s Update:
The opening balance on October 1, 2014 was $2392.09. The closing balance on October 31, 2014 was $2243.14.
New Business:
Financial Grants: The Pro-Grant Health and Nutrition funding for $1000.00 is to be utilized in 2015. A Wellness Grant
was received for $500 and is to be utilized by June 30, 2015.
Ideas for use of Pro-Grant and Wellness grants were discussed. They included ideas such as; an Inside Ride event and a
Health and Wellness School Event for the community. Ideas included GoodLife Fitness classes, Zumba classes, a
Basketball Clinic, a speaker from Peel Health, and Hospitality class participation. The school event is set for April 23,
2015. Council members will research possible ideas for the event date and discuss ideas at the next council meeting
after January 2015.
School Funding Donation: With a vote of 5 elected members, the St. Augustine School Council donated $500.00 to the
school library.
Fundraising Discussion: Ideas for future fundraising events were discussed such as: Civie’s Day, M&M fundraising,
Poinsettia fundraising, Christmas sale, and Food & Culture night.
Financial Review and Planning:
November 2014: $2243 balance
Library Donation: -$500
Graduation/Awards Carryover required: -$400
Remaining Council Funds: $1343
School Council Addition: A new Parent Representative was elected to the School Council: Nievel Regis Kankam.
Future Meetings: A Parent Engagement Evening, for the family of schools, will occur in January 2015. The date has not
been announced. A planning day for the St. Augustine Health and Wellness Event in April will be set for February 2015.
Meeting Adjourned: The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm and the next regular meeting is scheduled for March 26,
2015.
