A Christmas Prayer
O God, Whose mighty Son was born in Bethlehem those days long ago, lead us to that same poor place, where Mary laid her tiny
Child. And as we look on in wonder and praise, make us welcome Him in all new life see Him in the poor, and care for His handiwork, the earth, the sky and the sea. O God, bless us again in Your great love.
We pray for this through Christ our
Lord.
December/January 2015, 2016
Amen
O God, bless us again in Your great love. We pray for this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
In December we celebrate the virtue of HOPE . We believe that God comes to us as a small fragile baby who shows us that even the smallest and poorest can make a profound difference in the world. God has given us this Advent season year after year in order to focus our minds and our hearts on the good all around us. During this time of hope, we are reminded that God chose to send His Son to us because we are worth it.
God knows how great we can be when we all come together. When we look at the world through the eyes of God we know that the message of hope in Jesus’ second coming will be and is fulfilled, because Jesus’ love lives in us every day.
ADVENT SEASON
Our Advent Season began on the first Sunday of Advent, November 29th, 2015. We will celebrate the Advent Season with a Mass on Wednesday, December 16th @ 9:30 am. We hope you can join us.

Vianney participated in our third annual
Movember campaign during the month of November. Male staff members sported creative and itchy mustaches for the entire month to promote men’s health. By growing a new mustache during the month, men become walking billboards, ready to engage in conversation with others surrounding a topic that is often ignored. Through our school community, we were able to raise awareness and funds to support the work of the Movember Foundation.
Thank you to all the staff and school community who raised awareness and donated during this month! Now where’s my razor! We raised close to $600.00. Thank you to Mr.
Ranalli for organizing this campaign.
Teachers at St. Jean-Marie Vianney have been eager to get their hands on the new iPads delivered at the end of the past school year. There are numerous benefits associated with the use of these learning tools. Many see the iPad as a versatile, powerful tool that is changing the face of education – both students and teachers have access to educational apps available through the DP App store. At the end of the last school year, teachers and administrators were able to attend a hands-on training session where we learned things that we hadn’t known were capable on our personal iPads. These same teachers led our own staff through a hands-on exploration of the school iPads, identifying useful apps, different uses for the iPads, ways to engage students in new learning opportunities, and how the iPad may support work being done in the classroom.
With the start of the new school year, iPads were readily in the hands of our teachers and students supporting curriculum in the classrooms. The iPad in the classroom brings education to life. Students have endless access to valuable information. Interactive technology makes learning more engaging, memorable and students are more motivated. Audio and video recorders can change the way that
. In particular our grade 4s have been exploring book creation using the
Book Creator App, grade 3/4s have been exploring the Adobe Voice app, our Grade 7s have been creating a math movie using the Green Screen and iMovie apps. Many classes are using the iPads to support inquiry based learning in their classrooms as well. Teachers have also embraced the iPads as a means for documentation and assessment. Our kindergarten teachers are using an app called Sesame Snaps to document student evidence for use with parents during parent/teacher conferences.

The Rosary Apostolate in the Schools
Program
We are delighted to have the Rosary Apostolate program at SJMV School. Facilitators visit every classroom in the school on a monthly basis, from October to April.
The program exists because teachers continue to experience the good fruits of praying the rosary in the hearts of students! All lessons have been examined and approved by the Archdiocese of Toronto and other participating Diocese. All presentations and prayers are modified according to the different age groups.
