In Reading Workshop, we read many books by Robert Munsch.
We found his style to be full of silliness and noise! He also used onomatopoeia to
express the fun and chaos going on in many of his books. In Math, we focused on
subtracting three-digit numbers, both with and without regrouping.
In Writing Workshop, we read and wrote several Haiku poems. These short
poems originated in Japan and are about nature. They follow the rule of 3 lines,
with the first and third line having 5 syllables each. The middle line has 7
syllables. Below is our class-written Haiku.
The Woods
In the woods we go.
Trees give cool shade from green leaves.
We hear woodpeckers.
We also took some time to write about our wonderful mothers! We are using
this opportunity to exercise our paragraph writing skills.
In Social Studies, we began our Mother’s Day preparations and created
drawings to communicate messages like the Native Americans of the Plains did in
the past.

What message did you write on your buffalo
“skin?”
Tell me about the many different strategies
for subtracting three-digit numbers.
I’d love to hear about the Mother’s Day
preparations---No, I am only kidding! Do
not ask about them for they are Top
