Barton’s Bay News April 29, 2016 In Reading Workshop, we read many books by Robert Munsch. We found his style to be full of silliness and noise! He also used onomatopoeia to express the fun and chaos going on in many of his books. In Math, we focused on subtracting three-digit numbers, both with and without regrouping. In Writing Workshop, we read and wrote several Haiku poems. These short poems originated in Japan and are about nature. They follow the rule of 3 lines, with the first and third line having 5 syllables each. The middle line has 7 syllables. Below is our class-written Haiku. The Woods In the woods we go. Trees give cool shade from green leaves. We hear woodpeckers. We also took some time to write about our wonderful mothers! We are using this opportunity to exercise our paragraph writing skills. In Social Studies, we began our Mother’s Day preparations and created drawings to communicate messages like the Native Americans of the Plains did in the past. 3 Table Talk Monday is Day 12: Gym If you have not already done so, please RSVP for our Mother’s Day event. Mother’s Day in Barton’s Bay will take place on Thursday, May 5th, at 10:30AM. Ask your child if he or she needs more glue sticks. Below are some conversation ideas for the dinner table: What message did you write on your buffalo “skin?” Tell me about the many different strategies for subtracting three-digit numbers. I’d love to hear about the Mother’s Day preparations---No, I am only kidding! Do not ask about them for they are Top Secret! Have a fantastic weekend! Wendy Barton
