ROOM 109 Spencer Loomis Hawthorn Woods, IL 4/15/16 Name __________________ Ms. Vanderlinden’s Friday Note! Dear Parents, Please look over the papers your child has been bringing home throughout the week. Sign and return this note on Monday. Through open communication, we can work together to ensure a successful school year for all! This Week’s Highlights Reading – As we continue to explore poetry, the children are noticing how poets choose their words carefully to share their observation with their readers. Students are creating pictures in their minds, figuring out where a poet’s ideas & inspiration come from, and connecting with the feelings or experiences presented in poems in order for them to better understand what they are reading. We also used a variety of strategies to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words in poems – in order to improve our comprehension. Writing – In our Nonfiction Writing Unit, the children have entered the exciting stages of editing, revising, and publishing! It is terrific to watch the enthusiasm and sense of accomplishment the children are demonstrating as they put the finishing touches on their books. Math – Students are extending their addition strategies to three-digit numbers! Students are using the count on strategy and place value (in expanded form) to practice regrouping and adding two-digit with three-digit numbers and three-digit with three-digit numbers.
