A word from the instructor:
It has been wonderful to watch this group develop their technical skills and gain an understanding of materials to create 3D forms from their imagination: to will concepts into existence.
The experience of making the artifact has caused them to examine their efforts and see with new eyes.
A new contemporary and geometric sculpture that symbolizes sincerity, romance and the modern century. In this work, color moves across sculptural planes and lines form central objects of obsession and attraction.

Knowing that metal work has been around for centuries intrigued me. I was able to adapt and found myself admiring the strength of the metal. At the same time I was in awe of the compromising it did with me as I was manipulating it into the shapes I was asking it to form.

I conceived this sculpture to explore the dual ideas of forms contained within forms and the representation of natural organic forms with inorganic materials. The sculpture is comprised of a disc and tube form enclosed in a wire mesh form. The viewer’s eyes are initially drawn to the interior of the sculpture to the disc and tube form. Next the viewer observes the outer wire mesh form comprised of layered loops within loops. The viewer might imagine instances in nature where forms are contained within other forms; perhaps in the reproductive process. The viewer might consider that the wire mesh form could suggest cells or membranes in nature.

Wood Painted
This is my first project doing this type of art. The main focus is an eclipse in abstract form. Working with wood is a simple form of modeling one's thoughts and feelings into existence that I found truly fascinating.

I never knew welding could be so much fun and an experience I will never forget. I gave life to the bars of steel as I welded them together. I named this piece “Iron Flower” because of the resemblance it has to a flower blossoming when it comes to full life.
For me, this project was the hardest. I did not have an idea of what I wanted to do. I did not find a relationship to my objects at first. Then I saw that the relationship between the objects resembled an old school camera, that was the direction I wanted to go.

At the start, I found this sculpture to be the most difficult because I was clueless about what to do.
After I found all my objects,
I had an idea of what direction to go and realized it to be the easiest. I liked doing this project the most because I love the idea of shaping my found everyday materials.
A delicate and beautiful wood that needed no finishes, but waxing and polishing. Planes and space interacting together to create interesting negative space that embellishes the positive spaces, shapes and forms. Rest is implied by circles.

My first sculpture of this size, had to be scaled down by two pieces to stay standing.
I was often asked by people passing, “How do you get it to stay up?”
Exactly the reaction I intended .
